M 16 and M 17 in the constellations Snake, Archer and Shield

The Milky Way region around M16 and M17 contains a large number of further fainter nebulae. In addition to the large emission nebula regions, the mosaic shows two other extended H-II regions, Sharpless 2-54 (LBN 72) and IC 4701, as well as 4 open star clusters: Messier 18, NGC 6590, NGC 6604, and Trumpler 32. This mosaic consists of 5 single frames with a total exposure time of nearly 8.5 hours and shows an area of about 2 x 6 degrees along the galactic equator.
